Egypt Visa Guide for US, UK, Canadian and Australian Travelers

Visa on arrival vs. the official Egypt e-Visa: what it costs ($25 USD), what your passport needs, and how airport arrival works step by step.

Most travelers holding a US, UK, Canadian, Australian, New Zealand or EU passport need a tourist visa to enter Egypt. For a standard single-entry vacation of up to 30 days, you have two straightforward options: buy a visa on arrival at the airport or apply online for an e-Visa before you fly.

The visa on arrival is the simplest route for most guests. When you walk into the arrivals hall at Cairo, Luxor, Hurghada or Sharm El Sheikh airport — before you join the passport control queue — you stop at one of the official bank kiosks (Banque Misr, National Bank of Egypt or Banque du Caire), hand over $25 USD per person in crisp cash (euros or sterling are also accepted, but USD is easiest), and receive a sticker to place on a blank passport page. It takes two minutes.

If you prefer to have everything settled before departure, or if you need a multiple-entry tourist visa (for example, if you are combining Egypt with a side trip to Jordan and flying back into Cairo), apply through the official Egyptian government portal at visa2egypt.gov.eg at least seven days before travel. A single-entry e-Visa costs $25 USD and a multiple-entry e-Visa costs $60 USD. Avoid third-party lookalike websites that charge extra processing fees.

Whichever option you choose, your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date in Egypt and have at least one completely blank visa page.

When you book a package or airport transfer with us, our airport representative can meet you inside the terminal before immigration, point you straight to the bank window and help you through arrival.

Questions travelers ask

Can I pay for the Egypt visa on arrival by credit card?

No. The airport bank kiosks require cash — $25 USD per person in clean, untorn bills issued after 2013.

Do cruise ship passengers need an Egypt visa for a shore excursion?

Most cruise lines arrange a blanket quick-transit stamp with Egyptian port immigration for passengers booked on shore excursions; bring your passport and ship card ashore.

Where should I apply for an official Egypt e-Visa?

Only use the official government portal at visa2egypt.gov.eg, at least 7 days before your flight.
