Overview

From the cruise port in Ain Sokhna: a private tour of Cairo, timed around your ship, with pickup at the port and a back-on-board guarantee.

Step 1: Morning Pickup & Highway Transit

  • Meet your guide and driver directly at the ship disembarkation terminal inside Sokhna Port.
  • Travel west across the desert plateau via the Kattameya Highway, arriving at the Mokattam hills overlooking Cairo.

Step 2: The Citadel of Saladin & Alabaster Mosque (2 Hours)

  • Medieval Fortress: Tour the 12th-century fortification constructed by Sultan Saladin (Salah ad-Din) to protect Cairo from Crusader forces.
  • Mosque of Muhammad Ali Pasha: Step inside the magnificent 19th-century Ottoman "Alabaster Mosque." Walk through the arcaded courtyard and admire its cascading domes, massive chandeliers, and alabaster-clad walls.
  • Panoramas of Cairo: Stand on the Citadel’s terrace for a sweeping view across Greater Cairo (on clear days, the distant silhouettes of the Giza Pyramids are visible).

Step 3: Historic Old Cairo & Coptic Enclave (2 Hours)

  • The Hanging Church (St. Virgin Mary): Visit one of Egypt's oldest Coptic churches, built directly over the gatehouses of the Roman fortress of Babylon.
  • Church of St. Sergius and Bacchus (Abu Serga): Descend into the historic sanctuary constructed over the crypt where the Holy Family is believed to have taken refuge during their journey into Egypt.
  • Ben Ezra Synagogue: Explore the historic synagogue restored on the site where, according to local tradition, the baby Moses was found among the reeds along the Nile banks.

Step 4: Traditional Egyptian Lunch (1 Hour)

  • Enjoy lunch at an air-conditioned local restaurant serving traditional Egyptian mixed grills, rice dishes, fresh flatbreads, and mezze salads.

Step 5: Khan El Khalili Bazaar (1 Hour)

  • Historic Market Walk: Take a guided stroll through Cairo's famous 14th-century marketplace. Walk past spice shops, intricate brass lamps, hand-carved copperware, and traditional perfume vendors lining narrow cobblestone alleys.

Step 6: Direct Return Drive to Sokhna Port

  • Board your private vehicle in the mid-afternoon and travel directly east back along the highway to Sokhna Port, arriving well ahead of your cruise ship’s final all-aboard time.
  • Saladin Citadel
  • Coptic Cairo churches
  • Khan el-Khalili
  • Return to ship

Good to know

When is the best time to visit Egypt?

October to April is the most comfortable time, with warm days and cool evenings, so it is also the busiest and highest-priced season. May to September is hot, especially in Luxor and Aswan, but sights are quieter and prices are lower. We plan summer days around early starts and a long midday break. Christmas and New Year sell out early.

What is included in the price?

Each trip lists exactly what is included and what is not. In general our prices include private transport, a private Egyptologist guide, entrance fees for the listed sites, hotels or cruise as described, and the meals shown. International flights, visas, tips, drinks and optional extras are not included.

Are your trips private or in a group?

All our trips are private: just you and the people you travel with, your own guide and your own driver. You never share a vehicle or a guide with strangers. Nile cruise ships are shared with other guests, but your sightseeing on shore is private.

Is Egypt a good trip for children?

Yes. Children love the pyramids, felucca sails and the Red Sea. Children aged 2 to 11 pay 50% of the adult price on most trips, and under-2s travel free. Tell us their ages and we will plan shorter visits, pool time and family rooms.

Can you plan a slower pace or help with limited mobility?

Yes. Because every trip is private, we can plan shorter days, more rest and fewer stairs. Some ancient sites have uneven ground and steps, so please tell us about any mobility needs when you ask for a quote and we will be honest about what is practical.

How does tipping work in Egypt?

Tipping is part of daily life in Egypt and is not included in our prices. Small tips for drivers, guides, cruise crews and hotel staff are customary; your planner will send you a simple guide with typical amounts before you travel, so you are never left guessing.

Can I reach you on WhatsApp during my trip?

Yes. Once you book, you get a WhatsApp number for your planner and a local contact on the ground. Message us any time during your trip if something needs changing.
